Jammin Anyone?

Jammin anyone? Written Jams by Carlos Cervantes

Legendary New York jazz percussionist Carlos Cervantes is announcing a concert series without knowing exactly whom he'll be playing with. "Jammin' Anyone" is an event for musicians, and music fans, who will learn their parts and then put on a show for the audience.

Guest artists will vary, but they will consistently be the best musicians that New York has to offer. Why are we so sure? Consider the following true story: Jack Jeffers and Enrique Fernandez were preparing the details of their own concert with their big band "New York Classics" when they heard what Carlos was going to play. They immediately jumped on the opportunity, forgetting for a moment their own show! "When is Carlos playing? Let me know! I used to go to his midnight concerts in the 80's! I'm coming when he plays!" The same has been said by many other musicians. Carlos is truly a musician's musician, called by one music critic "The most famous unknown musician in New York." His list of collaborators is surprising not only for the quantity, but also for the quality of names, including Luis Miguel, Lupita D'alessio and Jaco Pastorius.

Carlos Cervantes notes his that he has been influenced by Julian Carrillo, and he has incorporated some of the Mexican composers' styles into his own. Carlos Cervantes prefers to avoid definitions, but when pressed categorizes his own music as a form of spiritual jazz. Please join us at El Taller to enjoy the pleasure of seeing music not just performed, but truly being formed by some of the highest quality musicians in the city!
