Astraea Records presents an evening of music with Black Horse Riders, The Looking and Waiting for Elijah.
BLACK HORSE RIDERS is an acoustic duo of Roland Hasbrouck and T. Curtis-Verderosa, a New York based electric-roots trio. BHR elicits enchanting, dark, and hopeful sounds of cathartic ritual. In the tradition of folk song writing, the songs talk of pain, struggle, and redemption. Hasbrouck’s voice has been compared to Jeff Buckley, Tom Verlaine, and Neil Young among other luminaries. Black Horse Riders are currently completing a full length recording at Marcata Studios w/producer Kevin McMahon.
WAITING FOR ELIJAH is the dynamic and overflowing ensemble of voices and instruments that combines ancient Jewish liturgical melodies, timeless spiritual themes, virtuoso instrumentation with lush contemporary folk harmonies and rhythms. WAITING FOR ELIJAH is the creation of Adam Feder (The Shul Band) and includes the amazing voices of Rebecca Bellingham and Sabrina Lastman. The music soars and inspires! Tonight’s performance will be in an intimate ‘unplugged’ format and will feature our newest vocal compositions.
Todd Carter (a.k.a. THE LOOKING) is a singer and producer who draws from the worlds of pop, classical and folk music. For this performance at El Taller, Todd will be joined by Tony Graci on drums, Gerald Menke on pedal steel and John Carey on bass along with some special guests. Currently at work with producer Roger Greenawalt on an album of cover songs, Todd will be performing some of these songs including “Terrapin” by Syd Barrett, a love song about an underwater relationship, and “Who by Fire” a litany of death by Leonard Cohen.
