El Taller presents Juan Andrés Ospina's "BBB: Barcelona, Bogota, Boston" Band. Through the Formers and Performers Series, Ospina will weave together his original compositions influenced by his time in the three cities that gave birth to his album. Combining elements of jazz and traditional Colombian styles of cumbia, pasillo and the bambuco, his music has been described as "an absolutely welcome addition to the jazz landscape" (David Sumner, All About Jazz). The repertoire has been requested for educational purposes from institutions that span the globe. Join us for an amazing evening that will feature piano, percussion, bass, trombone, alto/soprano saxophone, drums, tenor saxophone and vocals.
Juan Andrés Ospina currently splits his time between New York, Colombia and Europe, working as a pianist, composer, arranger and producer in a wide range of musical styles. Ospina is regarded as one of the most active and prominent exponents of a very outstanding generation of Colombian musicians. His debut album 'BBB: Barcelona, Bogota, Boston' (Armored Records, 2009) was recorded in Boston with a select group of emerging jazz musicians from New York.
