ArtUnited: Radical Resistance to Xenophobia
On exhibit May 6 - May 18, 2017
Opening Reception Saturday, May 13 7-9PM
ArtUnited is pleased to present a group exhibition featuring the works of emerging and established artists responding to the Trump Administration’s immigration policies and the assault on sanctuary cities. The “Radical Resistance to Xenophobia” show will run from May 6, 2017 – May 18, 2017 with an opening reception on Saturday, May 13th from 7-9:00 p.m.
Over 20 gallery artists will be featured in the show, many of them native New Yorkers, immigrants, and social justice artists who stand in radical opposition to xenophobia and intolerance. The works explore themes of diversity, multiculturalism, and sanctuary and illustrate the artists’ interpretation of the times we live in.
The exhibition will contextualize contemporary art within the language of social justice and human rights. The exhibition will create a dialogue about what the Trump presidency means to artists, immigrants, and to all that makes America uniquely inclusive, culturally diverse, and extraordinary.
This event will serve as a fundraiser to support the ongoing efforts of ArtUnited to amplify social causes through the visual arts; and in part to support the work of organizations defending the rights of migrants, refugees and those most marginalized by Trump’s policies of prejudice and fear.
The artist’s will be present at the opening reception Saturday, May 13th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Grady Alexis Gallery at El Taller Latino. For additional information please contact curator Lola Ibrahim, lola@artunited.org
