The arts affect the way we see the world, and they also influence how we experience other forms of art.
El Taller Latino Americano has valued this reciprocity throughout its 45-year history, evident in the ongoing relationship between its House of Art (Casa de Arte) and House of Music (Casa de Musica), which have coexisted within our performance space since its inception in 1979. While these playground exhibitions have not directly benefited from this interaction between art and music, they have been enriched by the excitement and laughter of the children who play here, as well as by the city’s spontaneous sounds.
This exhibition not only links art and music but also connects to another of El Taller’s longstanding projects: the Songbook Americas. This project is a culmination of El Taller Latino Americano’s history of presenting music from across the Americas, featuring performances by both famous and unknown artists (famosos y desconocidos). It celebrates traditional regional music and embodies the cross-cultural exchange that naturally arises from travel, modernity, and change
El canto (the song) can be understood as lyrical poems that depict landscapes, relationships, memories, significant people, and history. Visual art conveys these narratives through color, symbolism, and the artist’s hand. Illustrations from El Taller Latino Americano’s Songbook of the Americas will showcase the interpretations of Spanish-language songs by three artists: Bernardo Palombo, Ric Pliego, and Oscar Pardo, focusing on their unique expressions.

Estoy buscando un cariño
con quien poder compartirlo
que me queda de vida
o tal vez sobrevivir.
Cariño que sea divino
matutino al despertar
que me cobije de ensueno
para poder madrugar.
No importa de donde venga
lo que tiene es que llear
avión, tren on bicicleta
aquí la voy a esperar.
Te espero con tu equipaje
y así podrás comprenderlo
que para mí tú vales
pues te voy a mantener.
Yo te voy a mantener
tú vas a ser mi mujer
y nos vamos a casarte
voy a dar el Green Card.
Yo te voy mantener
tú vas a ser mi mujer
y si no te portas bien
yo te voy devolver.
