Help us welcome "la primavera" with a night of Nueva Canción, folklore, and canciones de protesta by singer-songwriter Colleen Kattau, cellist Barry Kornhauser and guitarist Ben de la Garza. The night will feature original compositions, as well as songs written and performed by artists such as Guardabarranco (Nicaragua), Lila Downs (US/Mexico), Victor Jara (Chile), Mercedes Sosa (Argentina) and Jolie Rickman (US). The songs for the evening are ones of hope and solidarity with all peoples of the Americas and the show will be in the spirit of "peña", with various artists performing together and separately throughout the evening.
Colleen is a vocalist and songwriter in both Spanish and English and a dynamic performer, whose music is "power and beauty steeping in a fine tea." Inspried by everyone from her grandmother to Chilean folksinger Violeta Parra, Kattau's music embodies her belief that "we carry the past with us". She's performed on Amy Goodman's Democracy Now and is a featured artist at SOAWatch vigils.
