New Currents, Ancient Rivers marks the 2nd evening in a 3-part series featuring the New York-based Creative Improvisers Orchestra which celebrates Latin American culture in NYC and its ongoing influence on contemporary music and poetry. This performance, featuring renowned percussionist Daniel Moreno on a wide array of instruments including indigenous percussion and pre-Columbian flutes, will be conducted by multi-instrumentalist Peter Apfelbaum, one of the three Artistic Directors of the CIO's parent organization, Creative Music Studio. (The first concert of the series was conducted by CMS President and drummer/percussionist Billy Martin on April 21; fellow CMS Artistic Director and trumpeter Steven Bernstein will conduct for the final performance on June 23.) CIO founders Karl Berger (vibes, keyboards) and Ingrid Sertso (vocals, poetry) will also be featured, with Berger conducting a portion of the performance.
