Breath in Dreams

Breath in Dreams is a solo exhibition by New York-based Chinese artist Xu Jin concerning humankind’s relationship with nature. Graduating from one of the most prestigious art schools in China, Xu Jin showed remarkable talent in his exploration of contemporary art during the early 80’s. After living in New York City for over 20 years, he has fully absorbed the spirit of contemporary art, fully maturing as a great artist, inspired by what New York City has offered him over the years. At the same time, his concern over natural disasters has grown tremendously. He realized human activity is a prominent cause of suffering. He began creating art pieces directly reflecting those concepts, showing how we can co-exist with nature. In his work, you see pollution, war, and hunger, but the scenes are surreal and dreamlike, yet strangely painful. Penetrating beyond gorgeous colors on the surface, he shows the profound thought that, as decent human beings, we are responsible for the world we live in, and nobody should watch this beautiful planet rot. The exhibition serves as a visual awakening to the public about environmental concerns.
