A note for this exhibition:

Spring is here. However, it is not a Spring where we feel we can walk uninhibited in the fragrant air, smiling inwardly, if not outwardly, and enjoying the sun. Our very being is compromised by our environment and, sadly, each other. Normal comforts have been shifted drastically. Art cannot take away our discomfort, but can be a salve and a way for connecting. We offer this gallery as a way to be in this moment, to hold our concerns gently, and to sway or dance with them, and despite them.

Twelve artists with different backgrounds interpret “spring” in their own way. The result is a collage of imagery, poetry and colors. We hope that it is a soothing act of recognition: of vulnerability, strength, adaptability, humanity.

We are all inventing how to engage in these critical times. In the gallery, we are longing for the textures of art - seeing up-close the marks an artist makes, the way that paper and fabric reflects light. We long for the moments of being absorbed by colors and the impact that material art can provide. We long for the physical spaces, their sounds, the company of others that makes an outing complete. This gallery is an attempt to compensate; it is a work-in-progress. Therefore, we are giving as much information as possible to deepen the ways to connect to the art and the artists while viewing on computer screens.

The exhibition is best viewed on a desktop or a laptop. Information is presented in two parts:

Part one is the exhibition page. Works is organized in a [gallery grid ]in a flow from one artist to the next, as you would find them on gallery walls.  When you “enter” the gallery site, you will click on an image to enlarge it, if you “hover” the cursor over the enlarged images, the artist’s name, media, original work size, in some cases a statement about the work, and the artist’s web page will appear. (This only works computers, not on phones)

The second part is for artist biographies and external links for further exploration.

In lieu of gallery sales, we have included all the websites for these artists so that they can be contacted directly. We encourage you all to reach out to us and to them with comments or questions.

Gallery personnel can be reached at gagallery@tallerlatino.org

Additional note: Yunuene’s work has an “augmented reality” feature. We recommend using your phone to download her yunueapp. You will then be able to view this feature when looking at her works armed with phone and computer. You can find that download for your phone with this link.
