Chile Vive! - Historical Posters from the Popular Unity Government (1970-73)
On exhibit from September 23 to November 2, 2013
The Grady Alexis Gallery at El Taller Latino Americano is pleased to present CHILE VIVE!, Historical Posters from the Popular Unity Government (1970-73).
This exhibition coincides with the 40th anniversary of the military coup in Chile on September 11, 1973, and includes eighteen posters featuring rarely seen as well as well-known images that represent a period of remarkable change in the region.
The images, created by a group of artists who worked in a variety of styles, range from joyful scenes in full color, to striking 2-color compositions. Their vivid use of contrast evokes the significance of the political transformation of the period. Some of these images became iconic and have been inspiring for others working for social justice in Latin America. Selections from this collection were exhibited at Princeton University in 1973 and the set will become part of the permanent collection of the Center for the Study of Political Graphics in Los Angeles.
